Volunteer in Ghana

Louise's Story

I would recommend AIESEC to any young person thinking of volunteering abroad because even if it isn't perfect, it will very well be worth it.

Hi my name is Louise Österlind, a student from Stockholm studying Human Rights at Malmö University.
I went on exchange as a volunteer in Ghana last spring, to conduct a field study for my university thesis, impact the community and understand Ghanaian culture even more.

Before leaving, I already knew about AIESEC from a lot of friends in Sweden so I had an idea of what to expect. I was a Global Volunteer in Ghana for the project Brave Leaders.
It was very interesting for me since my studies focused on children rights and this project was about educating youth and children in Ghana about the Sustainable Development Goals. I was able to do presentations with other AIESEC members and educate children through seminars about their SDGs. I stayed at the AIESEC house in Accra with volunteers from all over the world and it was interesting to meet and learn from so many different backgrounds and cultures.

I am very happy I got to be a part of this exchange with AIESEC.

I think the most important personal goal I gained was improving my presentation skills, in general learning about countries and their cultures and the best thing was the new friends I made. I would recommend AIESEC to any young person thinking of volunteering abroad because even if it isn’t perfect, it will very well be worth it.
