Volunteer in Thailand

Arun's Story

I was first skeptical whether to do this or not... But in the end it turned out to be the best summer so far in my life.

-Arun, Linköping University
Green Campaign in Thailand

My Name is Arun Pravin and I am from India. I am currently doing my Masters in Industrial
Engineering in Linköping University
and I am also a member of AIESEC in Sweden. I went to
Thailand this summer for my global volunteering project and I was working as an English
teacher in a rural school in the south of Thailand.

This was my first volunteering experience abroad and to be honest I was first skeptical whether to do this or not. Then I decided to make up my mind and give it a try. But in the end it turned out to be the best summer so far in my life. I had many challenges during this project such as working in a rural village which doesn’t even have a public transport, Language barriers, Living close to a forest etc. But day by day I became more solution oriented and came up with solutions to overcome these hurdles. Apart from English, I even taught the students about the current global issues to make them aware of the things that were happening around them. Also through this project, I had the chance to experience a new culture and talk to different people. I made some good friends with the exchange participants of this volunteering project.

With these people I had the wonderful opportunity to visit some astonishing places in Thailand every weekend.

With these people I had the wonderful opportunity to visit some astonishing places in Thailand every weekend. This made me realize that these good experiences can’t be bought and it solely depends on the people around you and I was gifted to meet these people through AIESEC. Also at the end of this project it was so hard for me to move on, where this whole project went in a jiffy and this is of those parts in my life I wish I could relive once more. At the end I realised why AIESEC’s global volunteering program is relevant to youth in the world, that’s the best part of AIESEC, it gives you a satisfaction as you “Travel with a purpose”
