Volunteer in Turkey

Ashfar's Story

All throughout the experience I saw myself evolving gaining leadership skills by being more organized and taking responsibility.

I am Ashfar from Linköping University and will be sharing my Global Volunteer Experience in Istanbul, Turkey.
Last summer I had a really wonderful opportunity to volunteer in Turkey through an AIESEC project called Techno Kids. The objective for the project was to work on Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure with children and teens.

Our project teaching approach was split into three methods: Coding, Design and Robotics.
Other fellow volunteers who later on became my family were from Algeria, Azerbaijan , Canada, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia. Our Schedule was country presentation on weekly basis followed by specialised classes for design , coding and robotics. After lunch hours having language classes followed by more technical classes.
Initially it was hard to communicate with students because of the language barrier as most of them didn’t speak English. We used to switch through translator and also we picked few Turkish words to easily communicate with the students. We had a Global Village conducted to showcase cultural diversity of each country and it was open to public and I represented Sweden.

All throughout the experience I saw myself evolving gaining leadership skills by being more organized and  taking responsibility.
